Apple iPhone eMail App Crashing

If you have an Apple iPhone and have had your email application crash on you (close abruptly when you click on Mail icon), you know how annoying and inconvenient it can get.

It’s commonly caused by a corrupt e-mail message and it’s incredibly annoying.

Many help sites and forums suggest a full reset (where you would have to wipe the contents of the device) or deleting the e-mail account and re-adding it.

I’ve detailed instructions on how this issue can be eliminated by a few steps.

1. Go to Settings and switch Airplane Mode to ON.

2. Go to Mail, Contacts, Calendar

3. Set Preview to NONE.

3. Set the Minimum Font Size to SMALL.

4. Go to your Mail and your Inbox and press EDIT.

5. Click on the first email message (Commonly, the first email is the problem email) on the first screen and hit DELETE.

6. Close the Mail App.

7. Turn Airplane Mode back to OFF.

8. Open Mail and it should be fine.
(If the problem is not fixed, you will have to repeat step 5 and try to delete more e-mails as the problem email has not been deleted and still needs to be eliminated.)

Thanks so much for your tip, it worked first time, and I have had this problem before, where the only way seemed to be filling the “inbox” with 25 “clean emails to clear out the cache.

    Great Job!

I followed above, but when I try to delete the corrupted email, the Iphone crashes and when it comes back, do does the corrupted email.

I have already figured out this fix. But it is a band-aid at best. When I reply to some of my emails (but not all), some of my contacts get multiple copies of my reply even though I only send it once. The iphone says it has not sent the reply – and has placed it in the outbox. But in fact it has sent the reply, often multiple times.

There has to be a better way to fix this so we do not have to do this over and over again.

    Rob
