If you downloaded recent versions of Mozilla Firefox, you probably noticed the default search engine has switched from Google to Ask.
If you’re like me, you can’t stand ask and want to change the default search engine back to google.
Here’s how you do it:
1. Open a new Blank tab or window in Firefox.
2. In the address bar, type “about:config” and hit enter.![]()
3. Agree to the warning that pops up. (“I’ll be careful. I Promise”)
4. In the Filter field, enter “keyword.url”
5. Double click on the keyword.URL result.
6. Change the keyword.URL firled to “http://www.google.com/search?q=” and hit OK

Thanks so much.
No problem!
Until I was able to change this, I was incredibly frustrated.
I’m just glad we are able to change it.
Oh my Gosh!!!
Thank you sooo much for this advice!!!
Other sites just kept saying to change it in the tools settings, or delete it from the programs! But of course it wasn’t in either of them!!!
So glad to have google search back!!
You’re welcome!
Glad I can help.
If this doesn’t make it go away permanently, here are a few more steps:
