  2. Click on the e-mail account that was setup in step 1.
  3. Click on the Hostname (shawmail.cg.shawcable.net) under Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)

    2. Turn OFF primary server (shawmail.cg.shawcable.net)
    3. Add secondary outgoing mail servers using the same Shaw SMTP server details as Step 2. (You will have 2 records of shawmail.cg.shawcable.net — Primary and Other STMP server after Step 5.)
  1. Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars

There should now be a Primary Server (shawmail.cg.shawcable.net) and an Other SMTP Servers (shawmail.cg.shawcable.net)
    1. Turn OFF WiFi
    2. Add smtp.telus.net as an Other SMTP server (You will have 2 records of shawmail.cg.shawcable.net — Primary and Other)
  1. Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  2. Click on the e-mail account that was setup in step 1.
  3. Click on the Hostname (shawmail.cg.shawcable.net) under Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)

  1. You should now have multiple “Other STMP Servers” with the ON status and the Primary SMTP server status must be OFF!
  2. Test using WiFi ON and OFF and you should be able to send/receive e-mails without problems!

  1. I have tried this and it does not work. For incoming, i used shawmail.ok.shawcable.net and pop.shaw.ca. Neither work. And I have both the smtp.telus.net and the shawmail.ok.shawcable.net in the outgoing…. And it says unable to connect to server….

  2. Working:
(you can do this with wifi on or off)
Step 1: How to add a shaw email account
    a) Go To Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    b) Add Account
    c) Other
    d) Mail > Add Mail Account
    Name: your name ie. Bob
    Address: youremailaddy@shaw.ca
Password: your shaw webmail or email password
    Description: Bob
    e) Save
    f) Select POP
    g) Incoming mail server section
    Host name: pop.shaw.ca
    username: youremailaddy (from above)
password: your shaw webmail or email password

  3. (important in the username and password section for incoming mail server, do not add @shaw.ca in the username section and remove the dots and retype your email password in the password section)

    continued..

    h) Outgoing mail server
    Host name: shawmail.cg.shawcable.net
    User name: leave blank
    Password: Leave blank
    i) click save (wait 1-4 minutes)
    j) when prompted to try without SSL select YES (wait 1-4 minutes)
    k) accept prompts and this will save your account

    l) In the Accounts section
    select your email address >
scroll down past the pop account info and incoming mai server info until you get to the Outgoing mail server
    m) Outgoing Mail Server section:
    add server
    host name: smtp.telus.net
    user name: leave blank
    password: leave blank
    use ssl: off
    authentication: leave it alone
    server port: 25
when completed make sure server is set to ON

    n) turn off the shawmail.cg.shawcable.net in the primary server section.
    ie. shawmail.cg.shawcable.net Off >

thank you Aingaran for the instructions. It took about 45 minutes to figure out and then it took about 7-8 for the first test emails to flow inbound and outbound. After the first set of tests they came in a lot faster.

    Patience is the key.

  4. Hannicho,

    You’re most welcome!

If you don’t mind, I will take your comment and integrate it into the how to article.

    Thanks,

  5. Do you know what the Outgoing Mail server name is for Rogers? I am trying to setup Shawmail on my Rogers iphone.

    Thanks

  6. Hello, I just want to thank-you… i have been searching and searching and your info about the port being 25 instead of 587 made the difference for me.

    I am using host name….. pop.shaw.ca
    and outgoing is ….. smtp.telus.net

Changed the port to 25 and I am now not having any trouble sending new email or reply in to one.

    Thanks I am very greatful!!!

  7. Thanks for the email. I’m slowly getting things set up & working on both an ipad & a iphone. Right now I have things set up as you have outlined with the primary (originally set as shawmail.cg.shawcable.net) turned off, then a duplicate shawmail.cg.shawcable.net listed under ‘other outgoing servers’ as well as smtp.telus.net (which I change the server port from 587 to 25)… both of which are turned on.

I am able to send emails through the account while on 3G however it takes a long time (ie. 7 – 15 min). I realize that the settings do require a bit of time to attempt to send from one outgoing server the try the second but I’m not sure if this length of a delay is normal?

Based on Hannicho comments it sound like this time delay could improve… will it? Also, while the account is attempting to send, will it still continue to send if the phone enters standby mode?

  8. Took forever to verify the POP account information, but works fine. Only took 8 months of telus saying shaw needs to show me how and shaw saying telus needs to show me how.

I guess aingaran needed to show me how =)

  9. THANKS!!! I’ve spent months looking and asking and it was always someone else’s issue to deal with. Now it works like it should. Cheers!

  10. Many thanks Aingaran and others. This fix worked on my new iPhone 4 to give me my Shaw emails.

  11. mine said that shawmail.cg.shawcable.net wasn’t responding and to check my connection and that the info I entered is correct. Can’t get past step “J”
*sigh* feeling really out of my element here. I’m not very tech savy.

  12. YOU ROCK!!!! spent all morning on the phone with Telus and Shaw on hold forever. Nobody could help me. All I did was google my problem and you fixed me up.Thanks!!

  13. I followed these instructions and they didn’t work on my telus iphone4…here’s what I did that did work…

connect on 3G not wifi and make your primary smtph smtp.telus.net…set it to off

then test and send an email.

connect to wifi…then create other smtp with the shaw configuration (ie. shawmail.ed.shawcable.net)…make sure both are set to port 25 (the smtp.telus.net defaulted to 587 when I did it).

    test sending from wifi

    should work from both now.

Also note that incoming had to be set to pop.shaw.ca…not the shawmail.ed.shawcable.net.

    hope this helps others.

  14. Does this work on Shaw e-mail on telus Ipad also? Thanks!

  15. THANK-YOU!
Setting up an old iPhone for my dad, I was also on the phone with Shaw and Koodo for hours and they were no help – why would they not know how to set this up? Frustrating, but no surprise.
    All good now, thanks again.

  16. My Mac at home seems to be grabbing any emails I am receiving before my iPhone can get them. Sometimes my phone will get one, but then I don’t see it on my home Mac. The emails where coming through fine for 5 months on the iPhone, then just stopped, when I got the Mac.

  17. Hi. I seem to have got everything working but I have my primary server ON, is there any reason why I should not have this on? I also am using port 587. Any reason not to? Thanks for your help. More progress today that for the last 3 frustrating weeks!

  18. I have an Ipad, it has the same trouble I can receive but can not senf mail’s, right now I’m in Mexico ans using WIFI, the internet is working properly. How can I setup the mail with Wifi?

    Regards,

  19. I have tried to set up my email with shaw using the directions but am still not able to connect. I have deleted my account and was hoping I could get you to help me step by step beginging with adding Shaw at the OTHER stage after Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
as I am not having an easy time.

  20. There is one step missing. You must log into Shaw Webmail Beta and under properties submit allow for mobile.
