Rogers will be releasing a 5 GB iPad Data plan for $35/month for the Apple Tablet (iPad). The iPad will be available in Canada on May 28th and will work on the Telus, Rogers/Fido and Bell networks.

Apple announced the iPad will be available in Canada on May 28th. Rogers, Bell and Telus have all made official announcements they will be carrying the device.

Today, we’ve found out from the Apple Store details of Rogers’s data plan offering.

Obviously $35 a month for a 5 GB data plan is no where close to what ATT is offering in the United States ($30 for Unlimited iPad Data).

It appears as if Apple’s store website may have released details prematurely. The $20 add-on option is no longer available at Rogers. Only the $15 for 250MB and $35 for 5GB data options will be available upon launch. Rogers Redboard (Their Blog)

Currently, there aren’t any details of Bell and Telus’s iPad specific data plans. The wireless industry is a copy-cat industry, so don’t be surprised if Bell and Telus offer the identical data plan when they release details of their Apple iPad data plan.

After almost two years of uncertainty about what Rogers was planning to do with clients who currently tethered and those who intend to tether in the future, we have closure!

For those who don’t know what tethering is, here’s the definition according to Wikipedia,

Tethering is the use of a mobile device such as a mobile phone to supply Internet access for another device which is otherwise unconnected, using the mobile device as a modem.[1] This can be done through Bluetooth wireless technology or cables (such as USB).

Rogers released their updated Tethering policy on March 24th. Here’s a small excerpt of the news release.

Effective immediately, tethering will continue to be included at no additional charge for Rogers and Fido customers who subscribe to data plans of 1 GB and above (excluding those listed below). This effectively makes our current promotion (which was set to expire on May 3) our ongoing policy.

If you’re like me, who signed up for the $30 6GB data plan 2 years ago with the launch of the iPhone on the Rogers network, we can use tethering with our data plans without fearing any extra charges.
